How quotes work
in Houma
You describe the house once. We pass the request to independent contractors who work in your parish, and they contact you, look at the house and give you a written quote. Here is what we do, what we don't, and what to check before you sign.
First, describe the house.
Parish, foundation, flood zone, grant status. Answer what you know; "not sure" is a fine answer.
- Then we pass it on.
Your request goes to independent elevation and leveling contractors who work in Terrebonne and Lafourche.
- They visit and quote.
Contractors contact you, look at the house and give you their own written price. We don't set prices or take payment.
- You decide.
Compare quotes, ask for license numbers and check them. There's no cost and no obligation from us.
What we are, and aren't
Most people expect a contractor's website. This isn't one, and you should know that before you send anything.
A free quote-request service
You fill in a form, we read it and send it to contractors who do the kind of job you picked in your parish. Asking costs you nothing and commits you to nothing.
Not a contractor
We don't own jacks, steel or cribbing, we don't employ crews, and we don't lift, level or survey houses. All of that is done by the independent contractor or surveyor you choose to hire.
No prices, no payments
Every contractor sets its own price and writes its own quote. You sign with them, not with us, and you never pay us for a job. A house elevation quote, a leveling quote and an elevation certificate quote come from different people and are priced differently.
Independent, licensed and insured
The contractors we pass requests to are separate businesses, and they are the ones responsible for their licenses, insurance, work and contracts. See our terms. We still suggest you check them yourself; the steps are below.
What we pass on, and to whom
The full details are in the privacy note.
The form has four short steps. Only a few answers are required: what the house needs, the parish, the town or street, your name, and either a phone number or an email. The rest helps a contractor give you a better first answer:
- The job: raise it, lift it for repairs, level it, repair piers, rebuild a slab home, get an elevation certificate, or not sure yet
- The house: home type (site-built, manufactured, camp), foundation, size and stories, floor height above the ground
- Flood and funding: FEMA flood zone, elevation certificate on file, NFIP policy, damage status, how it will be paid for, utilities that will need moving
- Timing and contact: when you want to start, access for equipment, your name, phone or email, and any notes
Who receives it
The request goes to our inbox, then to independent contractors who work in your parish and do that kind of job. They contact you directly. If you send a WhatsApp message or an email instead of the form, the same applies to what you write.
Photos help
If you message us, include pictures of each side of the house, the space underneath it and any damage. For a leveling or repair job, a photo of the floors, the doors that stick or the rotted piers tells a contractor more than a paragraph.
Checking a contractor
Do this for every contractor you get a quote from, however you found them.
License
Ask for their Louisiana contractor license number and look it up with the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) before you sign anything.
Insurance
Ask for proof of liability insurance and workers' compensation. A house is lifted on jacks and cribbing, and you want the people under it covered.
A written scope
Get the price, the work, the schedule and who pulls the building permit in writing. Ask what happens to the utilities during the job, and when you can be back in the house.
Quotes you can compare
Ask each contractor to price the same target height and the same scope, so the numbers line up. For work paid by a grant, ask them to price to the program's rules.
Grants
We can't judge whether you qualify for a grant or how much a program pays, and neither can the contractors. The parish or program decides. What contractors can do is quote work built to your program's rules. Read the questions on grants and insurance.
